A little bit more on the Big 12 South mess

Inaugurating this blog with a continuation of a rant I started on Bleacher Report.

Let's go a bit further inside the numbers to see how things would have played out if point differential were factored in.

Starting with listing the common opponents for Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech:
Baylor
Kansas
Oklahoma State
Texas A&M

All three schools beat these four common opponents.

Now, we get to do a little math:
Oklahoma's scores against the four opponents:
Baylor: 49-17
Kansas: 45-31
Oklahoma State: 61-41
Texas A&M: 66-28
Aggregate Score: 221-117
Point differential = 104

Texas's scores against the four opponents:
Baylor: 45-21
Kansas: 35-7
Oklahoma State: 28-24
Texas A&M: 49-9
Aggregate Score: 157-61
Point differential = 96

Texas Tech's scores against the four opponents:
Baylor: 35-28
Kansas: 63-21
Oklahoma State: 56-20
Texas A&M: 43-25
Aggregate Score: 197-94
Point differential = 103

So, by way of point differential, Oklahoma barely edges out the other two. Which, in a year when three teams of almost equal value are battling for one spot, naturally it should come down to slim margins. But at least this slim margin left things on the field.
