Bowing Out of Sports Media

Over the Christmas break, I made a decision.

I decided that when the new year started, I was going to reduce my consumption of sports media. It was just supposed to be an experiment. I had no real plan except to try and read less, listen less and watch less.

It's been a little over a month since I started this, and I have to say...well...this might move from an experiment into a permanent change.

I have more time on my hands to read and write.

I have more time to tend to things around the house.

I also feel...more at peace with the world.

How is that possible, you might be asking?

For me, I think it's simple; it's the reduction of noise. Not dealing with any of the crap that is spewed over the airwaves—the vitriol, the unnecessary, unfounded hatred, the logical fallacies and bombastic, ignorant personalities—has removed sensory overload and unneeded tension from my mind and soul.

And yes, there were shows and personalities and websites I enjoyed, and I probably could continue to consume them. Maybe I will allow myself to get back to them later. But for now, for lack of a better term, I've enjoyed the silence.
